What Should I Feed My Ants?

Providing your ants with adequate food can help them stay healthy. There are four types of food ants need: proteins, fats, sugars, and carbohydrates.

Proteins are important for the development of larvae. Protein jelly, which is available in different flavours, is an excellent choice for captive ants. It can be stored in the fridge and lasts for a few months.

Fats are important for ants that are active in the daytime. These ants “farm” aphids and other insects. Fats provide them with energy. Meat is a good source of protein.

Bread crumbs are a popular food for ants. Bread is a fast-acting carbohydrate that gives ants energy. But keep in mind that bread crumbs are easily spread around.

Using liquid sugar is another good option. Liquid sugar can be a solution of honey or water that is heated with sugar. These sugars can be fed to ants in test tubes or in capsules.

Agar is another popular food for ants. It is a thick paste that can be purchased from any pet store. Agar contains vitamins, egg, and honey.

Using peanut butter is also a good choice. However, make sure that the food is sealed in a plastic bag. This will keep it from being eaten by other ants.

Candy is also a good choice. It gives ants fast, reliable energy. It is also easy to keep out of reach of ants.

A liquid sugar solution can also be given to ants. It can be made from 7 parts water to 1 part sugar.
