What Ants Are Poisonous to Humans?

Various types of ants are known to be poisonous to humans. They can cause serious or life-threatening reactions. Some are more painful than others.

Bulldog Ant is one of the most painful and aggressive ants in the world. This ant injects venom that can kill an adult within 15 minutes. They also hold on to their victims with their long mandibles.

Another type of ant that can be deadly is the Florida Harvester Ant. These ants have venom that is similar to cobra venom. They are aggressive and will go on the attack when threatened.

Other species of ants that are venomous include fire ants and carpenter ants. They are highly aggressive and are known to sting people multiple times. Approximately 60 percent of people in fire ant infested areas are stung each year.

The Florida Harvester Ant carries venom that is lethal to humans. The Bullet Ant (or 24-hour ant) is another ant that can be painful. It injects venom that causes pain and swelling.

Jack Jumper Ants are also known to be painful. They have a unique jumping motion and are known to be deadly. This ant is known to be linked to four deaths in 1980.

If you are bitten by any ant, be sure to visit your health care provider immediately. They will determine your vital signs and will take a thorough look at the area where you were stung. They will also check to see if you are allergic to ants. They will administer medication as needed.
