Why Are Termites in My Bed?
Termites are tiny creatures that can be found in the wood of your bed or in your mattress. They are most often seen after heavy rainfall. They can be spotted by noticing the presence of fecal pellets or termite trails.
Termites feed on cellulose, a plant material that is found in a variety of fibers such as cotton, flax and rayon. In the home, termites mainly eat the cellulose in wood.
They can also damage mattresses and bedsheets. Termites can cause significant structural damage to your house and can be difficult to get rid of. They live in organized colonies that consist of thousands of termites. Fortunately, you can keep termites away by spraying essential oils on your furniture or using commercial products.
A good way to detect a termite infestation is to spray your mattress with Diatomaceous Earth (DE). This is a natural substance that does not emit a smell. Place some DE along the edges of your bed and walls and you will be on your way to a termite free sleep.
It is also a good idea to check your bedroom walls for signs of a termite colony. This includes bulging walls, sagging floors and other visible signs of an infestation.
Alternatively, you can look for a pinhole on your bedsheet. This is a small hole caused by the tiny bite of a termite. It will leave a red bump on the sheet, which is a sign of the existence of termites.
