How Long Do Jumping Spiders Live in Captivity?

Jumping Spiders are tiny insects that are known for their venom. Although the venom is not dangerous to humans, a bite can cause mild swelling. A spider’s lifespan can range from a year to two years in captivity, depending on the species.

Adult jumping spiders are typically around one and a half inches long. They are very active during the day. They have the ability to sense threats from larger animals. They are also able to self-care.

As jumping spiders get older, their pattern of fattening slows down. In the first few weeks of their lives, the egg sac is just the size of a grape. These babies will spend time near their mother, but will begin to disperse after a few weeks.

The female jumping spider will deposit her eggs in a protected spot, and will stand guard over the egg sac during the hatching process. She will lay up to 125 eggs at a time. When the eggs are hatched, the baby jumpers will leave the nest and begin to search for food.

Throughout the life of the jumper, it will undergo several molts. First, it will shed its exoskeleton. Afterwards, it will continue to grow.

It is important to provide an adequate amount of light, water, and food for your spider. However, they should not be exposed to high temperatures. Plastic and glass enclosures can quickly become too hot for your spider.

Some species of jumping spiders are solitary. Those that are social can sometimes eat other spiders. If you have several jumping spiders in your home, be sure to clean their cages regularly.
