Do Silverfish Go on Humans?

Silverfish are an ancient insect and are thought to have survived hundreds of millions of years. They are not toxic to humans, but can cause damage to clothing, books and other possessions.

The most common silverfish infestations are in the kitchen or bathroom. However, it is not unusual to find silverfish anywhere in the house.

Silverfish tend to live in moist areas, such as basements and bathrooms. They are not known to bite, but will eat food, linens and cotton clothes. During the nymph stage, these insects will shed their skin, leaving small holes in the material.

Some people are allergic to scale dust, and may be harmed by the remnants of silverfish. It is a good idea to check all foods for bugs.

One of the reasons that silverfish are considered to be a household pest is because they eat so many things. Their preferred food is carbohydrates, particularly starches.

Other items that silverfish like to munch on include tissue, paper, plastic, cardboard and insulation. When they molt, they leave behind scales, which can be seen on walls and wallpaper.

A silverfish’s antenna is long and curved, and can be flourished. These are just some of the things that make these insects interesting.

Another thing that the silverfish does is lay eggs. They lay about two to twenty in clusters. Often, the eggs are tucked into crevices, but they are also hidden within clothes.

Another interesting fact about these little buggers is that they don’t have wings. Consequently, they can cling to ceilings, ceiling fans, lamps and other surfaces.
