How Big Head Lice Are

When you have head lice, you must first determine how big they are. Adult lice are about the size of the FDR’s ear, while nymphs are only a few millimetres long. Lice eggs are between 0.5 millimetres and 2 millimetres long, and they are usually found one centimetre from the scalp.

Head lice have three stages of development, with the first being an egg. They are oval and yellow to white in color. They live for about a month on a human host. During this time, they lay seven to ten eggs a day. Lice eggs remain attached to the hair shaft for 12 to 14 days.

Head lice are easily transmitted from one person to another, even in the same house. For this reason, it is important to keep your child’s hair clean to prevent spreading the parasite. Moreover, your child should not make head-to-head contact with other people in the house. If your child comes into contact with another child with head lice, he/she should be inspected immediately. Treating lice and nits early on is the best way to prevent further infestation.

While head lice can be hard to see, they are not impossible to detect unless you have a magnifying glass. The most common locations for lice are behind the ears, near the hairline, and at the base of the head. Adult lice are about the size of a sesame seed, and the eggs look like dandruff in your hair.
