Leaving them untreated can result in hundreds of eggs being laid each day, and the population of lice will continue to grow. It takes about nine days for an adult louse to lay ten eggs, and it can take a few weeks for one louse to lay over 200 eggs.

One of the best treatments for head lice is a medicated product. Medicated products work fast, and they kill the lice quickly. It will take two to three weeks to get rid of an infestation, but the time it takes to rid a person of head lice depends on how many are present.

Adult louse can live up to 30 days on a person’s head. However, if they are removed, they die within 24 hours. Adult female lice lay about 100 eggs during their lifetime. The eggs are stuck on the hair shaft and hatch in four to ten days. If they are more than 1/4 inch from the scalp, they are probably from an older infestation.
