Can a Cockroach Eat Humans?

Cockroaches are omnivorous creatures and will eat anything that has enough nutritional value for it. This includes our eyelashes, fingernails, skin, and hair. They will even feed on our dead skin. However, cockroaches are less likely to bite you if your skin is open. Instead, they will most likely feed on the dead skin and other organic matter around your mouth.

Human bites from cockroaches are relatively rare, but they can happen. There are several documented cases of cockroaches biting humans, but most of these cases are anecdotal. Human bites have been caused by cockroaches nibbling on the nails or fingernails of people, but these incidents are rare.

Cockroach bites look like red, raised bumps on the skin. They look very similar to mosquito bites. Cockroaches’ mandibles are too small to penetrate human skin, so they would only gnaw on the outermost layer of skin. The bites would be itchy and range in size from one to four millimeters in diameter.

If you are allergic to cockroach bites, it is best to contact a Denver pest control professional as soon as possible. Although the bites are not dangerous, they can cause allergic reactions and rash. Cockroach bites can also trigger asthma attacks.
