Where Bed Bugs Hide During the Day

Bed bugs spend the day resting, digesting their food, and waiting for nighttime to feed. They only become active during the day if they feel threatened. If you suspect an infestation of bed bugs, open the curtains and look for them with a magnifying glass. You’ll notice that these insects can hide in small crevices, so be sure to use a magnifying glass to find them.

It’s best to protect your bed and furniture by purchasing mattress encasement and box spring covers. These items keep bedbugs out of your mattress and box spring. Since box springs are made of wood, they can easily hide inside them. You can also monitor your home until you find one bed bug, then treat it.

Bed bugs do not travel very far. They will not move further than 8 feet from their host. They will hide under furniture and in the folds of mattresses, as well as in cracks in floorboards and wood. During the day, they may rest on the mattress or in other areas of the bedroom.

If you spot any of these bugs in the day, you should immediately inspect your bed for signs of infestation. Adult bed bugs can be seen with the naked eye, but their nymphs will be harder to find. Nymphs are almost transparent and difficult to spot against light backgrounds. When they feed, they will shed blood that is visible inside the abdomen.
