What Ants Have Stingers?

Whether you’re in the woods, on a picnic or weeding a garden bed, you may encounter ants that bite. In the US, there are three broad groups of ants that are known to sting.

The most common ants to bite humans are the red ants, the fire ants and the harvester ants. They are all members of the Formicidae family. In addition, there are other species of ants that are known to sting.

If you’re stung by an ant, you’ll notice a burning sensation and redness. You may also develop a white pustule that can become infected.

The burning sensation is caused by the venom. In addition to the burning sensation, you may also develop a pricking sensation. It’s important to understand how to prevent infection after a sting. You can prevent infection by applying an antibiotic ointment three times a day.

You can also use an over-the-counter antihistamine to help with itching. You should also avoid sitting on ant hills, as they may sting you. If you do happen to be stung by an ant, you should immediately seek medical attention.

While most ant stings cause little or no problems, there are some people who experience severe allergic reactions to ant venom. If you have an allergy to ant venom, you should avoid contact with ants. Also, keep in mind that some ants will also spray noxious chemicals or formic acid on their skin.

If you have severe symptoms from a sting, you should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You can also use an EpiPen (epinephritis) to prevent an allergic reaction.
