Do Ants in Your House Bite You?

Unless you have an allergy to ants, they are usually harmless. But when they bite you, they can leave a painful, itchy welt.

Most ant bites are mild, but you should always get medical treatment if you develop severe symptoms. Symptoms of anaphylaxis, which is an allergic reaction to ant venom, include vomiting, difficulty breathing, and wheezing. If you develop severe symptoms, call 911 and go to the nearest hospital emergency room.

There are approximately 12,000 species of ants in the world, but only a handful are able to bite humans. In the U.S., the most common species are the sugar ant and the carpenter ant.

Sugar ants are small black ants with lines along their bodies. They enjoy sweets and can fight for their territory. These ants also have powerful mandibles.

Carpenter ants can enter your home through cracks in your walls. These ants are also known for chewing through wood like termites. They are usually found in kitchens.

If you have an ant infestation in your home, you can contact your local pest control company. They can provide you with a free estimate. Miller Pest & Termite, located in Omaha, is a pest control company that can help you.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) explains that ants are “moisture-seeking pests.” They can also be found in your home. They break down organic matter and are also natural aerators.

Carpenter ants can cause serious property damage. They are usually found in wooden structures. They bite when threatened and may also be found inside your home.
