Wasps Rugby Club
WouterHistorically, Wasps Rugby Club has played at Adams Park in High Wycombe for the past 12 years. They have a fixture list which includes clubs such as St. Andrew’s Rovers, St. Andrew’s Rugby Club, and St. Andrew’s Rugby Union. They have also hosted the London Welsh.
Wasps started their professional career in 1995. They have a team that includes French players as well as other international players. The club employs two full-time staff. One is the Chairman, Richard Green. The other is a groundsman. The club turns away housing developers on a weekly basis.
Wasps started with four wins in the first five games of the season. They remained undefeated until mid-November. Their only defeat was against Saracens in the Middlsex Cup semi-final.
They then won their first professional League Championship in 1997. They beat Leicester Tigers in the final at Twickenham. This win was celebrated with champagne from the Sunday Telegraph/Victoria Wine. They also finished eighth in the Gallagher Premiership.
Wasps were also ravaged by injuries. They had a number of players away on international duty, such as Nigel French. The club’s international stars also had to cope with a difficult autumn. Despite Wasps’ unbeaten home run of 18 months, the side suffered a number of injury-ravaged games.
Wasps had a tough time of it at the start of the season. They lost to Bedford in the John Player Cup, as well as a number of matches in the Border competition. They also suffered the departures of Joe Simpson and Nathan Hughes. However, they finished the season well.
