Where Does Termites Come From?
Termites can be quite a problem. They are small insects that can multiply very quickly. They can make their way into your home from the outside and inside. They can eat your wood and cause serious damage to your home.
They live in colonies. Each colony consists of a queen, a king and their offspring. The king and queen are responsible for the reproduction process.
They also eat plant litter, twigs and cotton. Termites are usually attracted to homes that have lots of wood in their environment. These include hardwoods and dead trees. If you have a termite infestation, you can control it by using insecticides.
Termites can be a problem if you have a large amount of water around your property. Keeping your yard free of water can keep termites out. It is also a good idea to have a termite inspection before buying a house.
The first signs of a termite infestation are swarmers. These insects are attracted to light. They scout for the best location to build their nests. They then mate and become a king and queen of the new colony.
Subterranean termites are the most common types of termites in the United States. They create underground tunnels to access their home. The tunnels are usually made of mud. They are able to travel fifty feet at a time.
These species can be very difficult to detect until the infestation is severe. They tend to be very attracted to moist areas, so if your home is in a damp or wooded area, you may want to consider putting up moisture barriers.
