How to Identify the Signs of Flying Termites

In the spring and summer months, a lot of activity occurs when termites are flying around. These insects are small and usually light-colored. Generally, they are between one quarter and three-eighths of an inch long. They are a little bit larger than ants.
You can tell when a termite colony is starting to swarm by watching them. These creatures often emerge from a subterranean nest. During a swarm, hundreds of termite swarmers will start a mating dance.
Occasionally, a swarm will last for a few days. During swarms, the termites will try to mate to create new colonies. Some of these colonies will die in the process.
In a swarm, you may see dozens or even hundreds of winged termites. You’ll find the winged ones on window sills, door frames, and other open surfaces.
If you see more than just one winged swarming termite, this is a sign that there is a termite infestation in your home. You should have a termite inspection done, if possible. You might also want to hire a pest control service to take care of the problem.
Termites are able to eat anything that contains cellulose, such as wood, cardboard, paper, and drywall. If they chew your wood, you’ll hear a rattling sound as they do so.
