How Long Do House Spiders Live in the UK?
There are over 650 species of spider in the UK. Some of them are not dangerous to humans, while others can cause serious damage to your house.
While most house spiders are harmless, they can be difficult to get rid of. Many of them weave webs, but a few of them actively hunt for prey. They can be particularly a problem if you live in a damp area. If you find them a nuisance, you can remove the cobwebs to prevent them from staying in your home.
House spiders can be found in many different sizes and shapes. The largest type, the Giant House Spider, lives up to 12 cm long. These spiders can be found in the dark corners of your home, under your sofa or even in the bath.
Another common spider is the Daddy Long Leg. This type of spider has long, slender legs that are so thin they almost disappear. It has a distinctive “slow walking” behavior.
Daddy Long Legs usually live indoors, but they can also be found outdoors. In the UK, this spider is most common in the woodlands.
The female house spiders lay eggs in silk sacs. After mating, the male dies. These eggs will then hatch a few weeks later.
Depending on the species, house spiders will live up to three years. Female spiders may be able to live as long as two years, but larger species tend to survive longer without food.
