Do Spiders Come Back to Life?
WouterDid you know that some spiders come back to life? In fact, scientists have been surprised to find evidence that some have resurrected.
Most spiders do not actually come back to life. Some are more adaptable to their environment, but others die from natural causes. Some of the largest spiders are quite hardy. For example, the black widow can live up to three years. The common barn funnel weaver is also a long-lived arachnid.
A few species of spiders are capable of swimming. The diving bell spider, for example, builds underwater webs that are filled with air. They only come up for air once a day.
Other spiders use their webs as balloons, allowing them to float away. This ability may allow them to survive a drowning incident. The same can be said of the tarantula, which is one of the longest-lived arachnids.
Although it’s true that some spiders do indeed come back to life, the question is, do they do it for real? Some species are only able to do so in a controlled environment. While many insects have survived water or even drowning accidents, it’s not clear what happens to spiders that fall out of a pool or pond.
Some species, such as the jumping spider, have a silken tent that keeps them warm and dry. Some species have females who feed on males after mating. While this does not necessarily mean that the spider is alive, it is certainly a good way to keep it under control.
