Why Can’t I Get Rid of Drain Flies?
If you’ve ever wondered why you can’t get rid of drain flies, you’re not alone. These small winged creatures are very common and may seem harmless, but they can be a pain to deal with. You may try a DIY solution to get rid of them, but if that doesn’t work, you can call a pest control professional. They have better treatments to stop the flies’ reproductive cycle and will get rid of the flies in a shorter period of time.
Drain flies are extremely small and can be hard to spot. They are about 1/8 of an inch long, and they tend to congregate in areas of standing water. They feed on organic matter that gets stuck in the drain or pipeline. This can be anything from hair in the shower drain to vegetable peels in the garbage disposal. Once the flies have gathered in a clogged area, they lay eggs. Once the eggs hatch, they leave the clogged area looking for another source of food.
Drain flies cannot fly very far, so they usually congregate in a small area near a home drain. They also find moist soil appealing and lay their eggs in these areas. A homeowner may not notice the problem until the drain flies have grown into full-grown adults.
