When Does Flies Go Away?

Flies are attracted to light and warmth, and can survive for three months in a warm environment. Over the course of their life, a female fly can lay up to 900 eggs, which will hatch in twelve to twenty-four hours. Left unchecked, flies can produce two or more generations per month. It is therefore essential to get rid of flies as early as possible.

While they don’t hibernate, flies cannot survive freezing temperatures. This means that they need a warm place to stay during the winter months. This is the reason why you may see flies at home. If you see cluster flies, look for places in your house that are warmer, such as cracks or nooks. Most will not reproduce or cause any real damage, but you may notice an increase in their number as the weather becomes warmer.

Another way to get rid of flies is to seal up any openings or holes in your home. If you can’t prevent flies from entering your home, you can use repellents and traps to get rid of them. Also, keep the area around your home clean, and use a garbage can that has a lid.

Flies love decaying organic matter. You should keep your garbage can clean regularly by spraying a bleach solution. Also, make sure your compost bin is far away from your house and covered when possible. Animal waste should also be picked up regularly.
