What Flyes in the Sky

The premise of what flies in the sky is simple: a drone will do almost any task that a human being can. These robots can do everything from knocking icicles off eaves to delivering popcorn to the Beasley Coliseum. Someday, they could even invade postal service. With 80 percent of packages weighing less than five pounds, drones would cut down on the need for UPS trucks to drive from one end of the country to the other. And, unlike other methods of delivery, drones would not blacken the sky.

We can also learn about birds’ flight habits by observing their flight patterns. Birds achieve lift by repeatedly pushing their flight feathers downward. While birds like pigeons fly in a straight line, other species of birds fly in an undulating pattern. Wagtails, for example, flap their wings while rising and glide while they descend.
