Do Flies Poop When They Land?

We often ask ourselves, “Do flies poop when they land?” This is a common question that many people have. In fact, they do! Flies enjoy the smell and moistness of poop, which is why they like to lay their eggs there. It’s also a great place for maggots to lay their eggs.

Flies can carry more than 100 different diseases. Their habit of spending time in animal waste and garbage means that they pick up pathogens on their legs and transfer them to the surface they land on. Flies also don’t have teeth, so they eat by spitting on food. Their saliva contains a compound that breaks down the food. In addition to their defecating habits, flies may also lay eggs on your food.

Flies produce uric acid when they defecate, but they don’t actually pee. They produce gas through their anus, and they also vomit. They may have poop on surfaces, such as your kitchen countertops. However, flies don’t actually poop when they land; they only poop after they consume their food.

Flies also produce gas during digestion. This gas may be reabsorbed into the blood or released through holes in their exoskeleton.
