Can You Get Lice From Flies?
While it is not common for people to get lice from flies, it can happen. There are several ways to get rid of lice. The most effective way is to not share personal items and avoid physical contact with someone who has lice. Also, be sure to treat the members of your household that had contact with the infected person. This means washing all of your children’s hats, clothing, and stuffed animals in hot water and drying them on a hot cycle. You can also wash hairbrushes and combs in hot water, and place them in an insecticide spray or plastic bag for at least two weeks.
Lice can be transmitted from head to head, so the easiest way to catch the disease is by coming into contact with the head of someone who has lice. Generally, lice are most common on the head and around the ears, but they can also be found on eyelashes and eyebrows.
Body lice are less common and generally affect people who can’t regularly bathe. They live on clothing and bedding and crawl onto the skin several times a day to feed on blood. Pubic lice, which are often referred to as “crabs,” are usually found on the pubic area and are less likely to live on other parts of the body.
