Can Flies Take Revenge?
Insects don’t have time to think about revenge. They’re too busy trying to protect their territory or mate. Even if they do get revenge, it doesn’t do them any good. It doesn’t even undo the wrong they did. Revenge isn’t even a good idea if you’re an insect – it’s pointless for them!
Plants, on the other hand, can take revenge on their attackers. They may respond by releasing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to repel or poison their attackers. They also may sting back to ward off predators. In some species, stinging is a defensive measure whereas for others, it’s an offensive response.
