Can a Venus Flytrap Eat a Cockroach?

If you’re worried that your cockroach might be a venus flytrap snack, think again. These plants have digestive enzymes and antiseptic fluids that will disintegrate a cockroach’s shell. The trap will remain closed until it has consumed the entire cockroach.

Venus flytraps can also eat bloodworms, which are very nutritious. These worms can be found at aquariums or pet stores for a few pounds. Before feeding your Venus flytrap, you should rehydrate them with a few drops of water. You can then blot any excess water away with a piece of kitchen roll or cocktail stick. Alternatively, you can purchase meatballs and place them in the flytrap’s mouth using a cocktail stick.

Venus Flytraps use a 149Mn pressure to close their mouth. The prey will try to escape the Venus Flytrap’s mouth, but will eventually run out of energy and die from exhaustion. The Venus flytrap can be found only in North and South Carolina.

The average Venus flytrap is about 5 inches tall and has a mouth about one and a half inches across. Some larger flytrap variants have mouths as large as two inches in diameter. The body of an adult cockroach is much too large for a Venus flytrap to consume in one sitting, but a small cockroach may be digested by its enzymes.
