How Bad Can Bed Bugs Be?
Bedbugs are known for their biting ability and can be found in many places. While a majority of humans will never react to the bites, it is sometimes hard to tell if you’ve been exposed to them for an extended period of time. Fortunately, some common signs can indicate whether you’re being infested.
Blood-stained upholstery, bedding, and other items can indicate bedbug infestation. Check bedding and upholstered furniture for specks of blood, especially near seams. Bedbugs also leave behind shell-like remains, which you can see on your bedding or in upholstered furniture. Small black specks of excrement may also be found.
While bedbugs do not spread disease, their bites can be painful and itch. In some cases, bedbug bites can cause an allergic reaction and require medical attention. In many cases, bedbug bites can be treated at home using a simple home remedy like lemon juice or baking soda. However, if bedbug bites are a severe problem, you may need professional treatment.
The bites of a bedbug usually last between three to fifteen minutes and are accompanied by a painful, itchy welt. They prefer to feed during the night and in exposed areas. Bedbugs often feed in long rows, but will sometimes interrupt their feeding and crawl back half an inch to feed again.
