WouterBedbugs don’t need to be big to bite you. They can be as small as one twentieth of an inch. They feed on blood only while they are still young. Their bites will appear on your body three days after hatching. If you have been waking up with bug bites on your body, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.
Usually, bed bugs won’t bite pets because they cannot navigate through hair and fur. But they love humans and will bite exposed skin. Their oval bodies and red-brown coloring resemble those of ticks. They grow larger when they are engorged with blood. Unlike ticks, bedbugs have six legs instead of eight.
Adult bed bugs are between five and seven millimeters in length. Their wings are not developed and they can’t fly. Depending on the temperature, they will feed less often during the winter. They will feed about one to three times a day. The eggs that they lay are transparent or white. Bedbugs lay their eggs in hidden corners of your home. They can lay up to twelve eggs per day.
Bedbug bites can leave behind an itchy red bump. Fortunately, the itching will go away on its own in a couple of days. You can apply antihistamine cream to reduce the itch. However, you should never scratch the bites, as this will irritate them further.
