How to Use Fire Ant Killer For Regular Ants

Using fire ant killer for regular ants can be a little overwhelming. There are a lot of different insecticides on the market. Some contain toxic chemicals, and not all work. However, some have been proven to work well in controlling ant populations.

There are two main categories of fire ant killers: baits and contact killers. The baits kill by spreading the poison to the queen, while the contact killers kill by touching the ants. Choosing the right one can be a challenge, so read the product label and follow the instructions.

Bait-formulated products can be used on single mounds, or broadcast over an entire yard. The best time to apply bait is on a dry day, as ants are less active during hot periods.

The bait should be applied when ants are searching for food. The bait should be left nearby the active mound. You should allow the bait to sit for at least 24 hours to be effective.

For best results, apply fresh bait when the temperatures are around 65 to 90 degrees. You can use a hand sprayer to apply this bait. Fill a circle of at least six feet in diameter with the bait.

If you have a large yard, consider using a broadcast spreader to apply granular fire ant bait. You will need about two pounds of product per 1,000 square feet of treatment area.

You can also apply a liquid insecticide to individual mounds. Many liquid pesticides are highly concentrated, so you will need to mix the appropriate amount of water with the product. You should also water the mound after you apply the insecticide to allow the active ingredient to wash into the ants’ contact zone.
