How to Keep Ants From Ruining Peonies

Using chemicals is one of the best ways to control ants. However, these chemicals can be harmful to humans and animals. Several insecticides are available, but they have to be specifically labeled for use against ants. Alternatively, a homemade peony ant kill mixture is a safe and natural way to control ants.

Ants are attracted to peonies by the juicy, sweet juice that is released from the buds. They also like the sweet aroma that comes from the flowers. However, some insects can harm the buds, so it’s important to treat them before they open.

Ants can be controlled by using a water barrier around the bush. The barrier will create a moat around the bushes, so ants won’t be able to access the plant.

Other methods include treating the plant head with an infusion. Some gardeners also recommend adding yeast to the solution. It’s also possible to add a bit of garlic to the solution. The combination is effective against ants, as garlic can repel them.

Another way to prevent ants from destroying your peonies is to create an ant trap. It’s very easy to make. Simply cut out a circle about 20 centimeters in diameter. Then, put some petroleum jelly on one side. This will attract the ants to the bait.

Another option is to make an ant trap out of cardboard. This is the simplest method. However, it’s not as effective as the more advanced techniques.

Tobacco also works to repel ants. You can either sprinkle tobacco dust on the petals or put tobacco butts in water for a few hours.
