Does Ant Spray Expire?

Whether you use it on ants, spiders, flying insects or plants, the answer to the question ‘does ant spray expire’ depends on the active ingredient, the brand, and the storage conditions. The best way to find out the answer is to check the label, or contact the manufacturer.

The active ingredients in bug spray usually have relatively stable shelf lives. Some of them will last for two years, while others will last for three.

DEET, for instance, is a common active ingredient in bug spray. It has a long shelf life, and should be disposed of after three years. It is considered by some to be a safe ingredient, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approves of its use. However, others feel it can pose health risks when used on the skin.

Picaridin, another common active ingredient, is a relatively stable chemical. It is found in some bug sprays, such as Ranger Ready. It is also used in Murphy’s Naturals and Off Botanicals.

IR3535, also known as ethyl butylamino propionate, is another common alternative to DEET. It has an expiration date, but it is not as stable as DEET.

Another active ingredient that does not have an expiration date is the oil of lemon eucalyptus. This oil is used in many all-natural bug sprays. However, it can get less effective after two years, and it will not last forever.

Some manufacturers have no expiration date on their products. However, most of them encourage consumers to discard them after three years.
