Can Ants Eat Humans?

Whether ants can eat humans depends on the type of ant. The African driver ant is a good example. It is known to have killed infants and even adults.

But most ants in the United States aren’t directly harmful to human beings. The ant’s main function is to eat other insects and to protect its territory. In fact, the most dangerous ant in the world is the bulldog ant, which has killed three people since 1936.

Another dangerous ant species is the African safari ant. These insects live in swarms and form columns of up to 50 million ants. It is most dangerous to humans during times of drought. The ants will eat anything they find in their path. These insects will also invade dwellings to eat.

In order to survive, the queen ant will consume other ants. Some species of these ants, known as agricultural ants, will consume the seeds of plant life in the area.

Another type of ant, known as jack jumper ants, jumps when disturbed. They have yellow and orange legs. They also sting. They are most common in Tasmania. The sting can cause localized swelling, blistering, and white pustules.

In Africa, indigenous groups use ants to stitch wounds. The ants use their sting and jaws at the same time. This may increase the production of uric acid.

In some instances, ants may be used to treat asthma or sore throats. The ant may also be used to stitch up open wounds.
