What Wasps Are Orange?
Depending on where you live in the United States, there are different types of orange wasps. You may be able to tell them from red wasps. Here are a few things to look for when trying to identify them.
One of the more common orange wasps is the Eastern Tawny-horned Spider wasp. These wasps are natural spider predators. They can be found throughout North America. They have orange wings, orange antennae and partially orange legs.
Another type of orange wasp is the Caribbean Scoliid wasp. These wereps are semi-social insects. They can build underground nests, create chambers and are diurnal. They are mostly black with orange markings on the wings. They have a minor role in pollination.
These wasps are commonly found around buildings and yards. They often make a humming sound when near a garden. They are not aggressive and usually don’t sting humans or pets. Their nests are usually built in protected locations.
One of the most frightening wasps is the Pepsis genus. These wasps are found throughout most of the world. Their stingers can be long and painful. They are also the second most painful stinging insect.
Thisbe’s Tarantula-hawk wasps are found throughout North America. They have orange wings, black-blue bodies and orange abdominal bands. They sting when they are provoked.
Other orange wasps are the Noble Scoliid wasp, which is a parasitoid wasp. They lay their eggs in the grubs of scarab beetles. These eggs are then consumed by the wasp later on.
