How to Prevent Termites Moving in Furniture

Termites move in furniture, and it’s a good idea to keep a close eye on them. Termites are small insects that have a life span of about two to three years. They live in damp, dark and humid places.

Termites may have already caused damage by the time you notice signs of infestation. Fortunately, there are some ways to prevent this from happening.

One of the most important things you can do is to remove moisture. Wooden furniture should never be stored in damp areas. Keeping windows open during the sunny months is a great way to dry out your home.

Another good idea is to polish your furniture. This will repel termites and also give it a shiny finish. Many polishes contain anti-termite ingredients. Other options include aloe vera gel, which can be bought from the store. However, it’s best to use pure, unprocessed aloe vera.

Alternatively, you could spray your wooden furniture with essential oils such as tea tree oil, clove bud oil and cinnamon oil. The essential oils can be mixed with water to create a solution. You can then spray it on the affected timber.

Finally, consider using a waterproof paint to protect your wooden furniture. These paints contain a chemical called DE powder that will kill termites that try to climb up your furniture.

Termites are notoriously hard to detect. Their colonies are usually undetected and may remain hidden inside your fixtures. They may even be present in railroad ties.
