Another important thing to keep in mind when storing your firewood is that it should be dry. If it’s damp, bugs and other pests will be attracted to it. You should throw away infested wood after six to twelve months, as the bugs’ eggs might be inside it.
You should also try to store your firewood in a spot where the sun can shine on it. This will encourage termites to leave the wood.
If you have a large amount of firewood, you can also use an insecticide. Several types of insecticides are available at a hardware store. But be cautious with any hazardous chemicals.
