One of the best ways to prevent termites from entering your home is by putting a termite barrier in place before you begin construction. The most effective barriers are rebar-reinforced concrete foundations. They will be strong enough to protect you from termites, but not so strong that they will tear the foundation apart.
Ideally, you should install a foam or gel substance in the area around pipes and wires in the concrete. This will keep the termites out, but it will require some effort on your part.
