Do Termite Bonds Expire?
Termite bonds are agreements that the homeowner makes with a pest control company, which requires that the company pay for the treatment of any termite infestations. The agreement can be renewed or transferred to a new owner.
Depending on the termite company, termite bonds typically last two to five years. A termite company will inspect your home on a regular basis and treat it if there are any signs of termite infestations.
Termite inspections are usually done once a year. During this visit, an exterminator will bait and spray the areas that have been found to be infested. The exterminator will also check for any exposed wood and treat it. If any wood contacts the exterior wall sill plates or cellulosic sheathing, a second visit will be made to treat those areas.
A termite bond is a type of insurance policy. It provides the peace of mind that you’re home will be protected from pests. If you do not have a termite bond, your home may be susceptible to infestations, which can cause more damage than lightning or hurricanes.
Termite repairs can cost upwards of $3000. Some companies will fix only parts of the structure that were damaged, while others will do a full treatment setup. The repair costs will depend on the company you choose, and the size of your house.
Unlike a homeowners insurance policy, a termite warranty does not include monetary limits. You can be sued for failing to disclose a termite infestation, and the termite company will be held liable.
