Why Do Spiders Bite Humans?
Spiders are not designed to bite humans. But some types of spiders can do so. They can also be very dangerous, especially if they have venom. If you’ve been bitten, you should see a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis.
A few species of spiders produce venom that is quite toxic. However, the majority of spiders do not have venom, and only a handful can even penetrate human skin. Some of the most notorious venomous spiders include the black widow and brown recluse.
In addition to the venomous spiders, there are many insects and other arthropods that can bite humans. Mosquitoes are particularly attracted to humans. The bites of these insects can cause severe skin conditions.
Spiders are also attracted to human sweat. This may cause them to mistake your finger for a caterpillar. You can avoid getting bitten by spiders by wearing gloves when working around rock piles or other things that attract spiders.
Spiders often try to avoid people. If they feel threatened, they will bite. Most spiders are small enough to not puncture the skin, but some have long fangs that can penetrate the skin.
A spider’s venom does not damage human tissues. Its toxicity is more suited to invertebrates. For example, a banana spider is not venomous, but it can still cause symptoms.
If you’re bitten by a spider, it’s not unusual for the area to swell and become itchy. You should clean the area every day and use an antibiotic cream to help alleviate the itching.
