A number of spiders are not venomous, including the hobo spider, black widow and hourglass spiders. Although these spiders are not known to harm humans, they can still bite and cause localized pain.
Venomous spiders are more likely to bite humans than non-venomous spiders. In fact, there are only a small number of venomous spiders that can actually kill a human. While most Australian spiders are venomous, there are some that do not.
The most common spiders that bite humans are the brown recluse and the black widow. Both of these spiders have venom glands, though their fangs are too small to penetrate human skin. This is because the glands are fused with the jaw base, which gives the fangs a very narrow gape.
Daddy-long-legs spiders also have venom glands, but their fangs cannot penetrate the skin of a human. These spiders are dangerous, but not as deadly as the brown recluse.
