How Big Are Huntsman Spiders?
Huntsman spiders are a type of spider that is very common in Australia. They are also found in Southeast Asia, South America, and parts of Africa.
Huntsman spiders are known for entering houses and cars. While many of these creatures are harmless, others can cause headaches, nausea, and localized swelling. If you are bitten by a huntsman spider, the first thing to do is stay calm. This helps prevent your heart rate from going up and spreading the venom.
A huntsman spider’s body size ranges from 2 cm to 15 cm. They have large front legs that bend forward like crab legs. The back legs are smaller.
Females are able to carry egg sacs under their bodies. They lay up to 200 eggs into these sacs. These sacs are about an inch wide. Several weeks after the egg sac has been laid, the spiderlings develop a distinctive color and start to disperse.
Unlike other types of spiders, the huntsman spider does not build webs. Instead, the spider catches prey in a variety of ways, including touching the spinnerets to the ground, jumping to a trap, and immobilizing the prey with venom.
Huntsman spiders can be a source of food for many other animals. Their diet includes insects, small reptiles, and geckos.
The mating ritual of the huntsman spider lasts several hours. After the mating process, the male inserts its palpi into the epigynum of the female.
Females are more aggressive in the summer than the winter. During this time, they become more protective of their eggs.
