Do Spiders Like Soft Things?
Getting bitten by a spider is rare. Mostly spiders are predators and catch their prey in their webs. They don’t bite humans unless provoked.
The venom of a spider is suited for invertebrates, not vertebrates. But the venom does pack a punch and can cause discomfort for people allergic to spiders. It is recommended that you vacuum regularly, behind furniture and drapes, and spray Ortho(r) Crawling Bug Killer with Essential Oils.
Insects are the most common prey for spiders. Some of the larger species are also predators of birds. Grass spiders build webs in grassy areas, where they often take insects. They may also build webs on the exterior of a house.
There are three types of spider webs. They are the orb web, the meshweb and the funnel web. The orb web is circular, made up of spirals. The funnel web is more circular and less structured. Usually, the funnel web is used by burrowing spiders.
Female spiders outnumber males by five to one. They work together to build their homes. They also repair and clean them. In the late summer, they are especially active and are likely to be found in large numbers.
The brown recluse spider is considered dangerous. It’s small and round, and it usually has a dark V shape on its body. It may have white markings. It hides in a sac during the day, and it builds a tent-like structure out of silk. It’s found in living spaces, such as garages and basements.
