Can You Take a Spider on a Plane?

There are several things to consider before bringing a spider on a plane. They range from the legality of importing a spider to the possible dangers. In most cases, it’s best to contact your airline directly to determine if it is permissible to bring a spider on a plane.

Some airlines are more lenient. Delta allows tarantulas to travel on their planes. Other airlines, such as Spirit Airlines, do not allow animals to be on the laps of their passengers. They also prohibit animals in inflatable seat belts. However, if you are traveling across state lines, you may be able to take your tarantula with you.

When traveling with a spider, you may be required to fill out a few pieces of paperwork. In addition, it’s wise to know your local laws before attempting to sneak a tarantula on a plane.

A number of people have successfully brought spiders on a plane. One man carried a nifty spider-catcher. Others have joked about a snake-themed emergency exit.

In fact, there’s an entire industry dedicated to smuggling arachnids onto airplanes, selling them on the internet and then dumping them back out into the world. Some countries have spelled out which animals are permitted to be imported, but in the U.S., you may not be able to go to the trouble of obtaining permits.

You can even buy a pet spider online. But if you’re traveling interstate, you’ll need to speak with your airline to see if your creature is a permitted passenger.
