Why Are Rats Always Hungry?
A study in Norway rats found that rats reciprocate help according to the quality of the help given to them. They also consider the relative benefits of the help given to the recipient. Norway rats were observed to provide food faster to a partner who was hungry than to one who was full. The researchers believe that this behavior is related to ‘gratitude’, which is often cited as a key factor in the evolution of social behavior in humans. By being grateful for the help provided by others, we are more likely to reciprocate that help.
Rats also have an excellent sense of smell, which helps them locate food in the environment. They can detect food even if it is hidden in a pantry or packaging. In addition, they can smell their way through walls to get to food they need. This is why it is important to give your rat access to fresh food.
When rats are starving, they’ll eat nearly anything, but not everything is safe for them. Although they are omnivorous and can eat vegetables and meat, there are some foods they shouldn’t eat. Because rats are omnivorous, they need animal protein, fats, and carbohydrates in order to survive. However, even though they’re opportunistic eaters, they have their favourite foods.
