Which Cities Have the Most Rats?
In the United States, New York City is notorious for rat infestations. The city’s population of more than ten million is one of the largest in the world, and it has attracted plenty of these disease-carrying pests. In 2007, a viral video showed a rat swarm at a KFC and Taco Bell in Greenwich Village.
According to the city’s official rat statistics, rats are an issue in several neighborhoods throughout the city. The neighborhoods with the highest number of rats include Mt. Pleasant, Park View, and Logan Circle in Brooklyn. In the Bronx, the worst neighborhoods for rats include Kingsbridge-Marble Hill and East Elmhurst, Queens. However, there are also areas where the numbers of rats are decreasing.
The fourth worst city in the country is Washington, D.C. The city’s population density and the growing number of bars and restaurants are attracting more rats. In addition, poor sanitation and inadequate trash disposal contribute to the rat infestation in D.C., which is getting worse by the day.
According to the latest Orkin report, Chicago is the rattiest city in the US for the sixth consecutive year. New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco follow closely behind.
