Is a Rat a Good Pet?
The first question you might ask is, “Is a rat a good pet?” The answer is yes, but they also have their disadvantages. Rats are highly social, intelligent and curious creatures. They love to interact with humans and enjoy human company. If you’re not careful with your pet’s behavior, it could lead to trouble.
Rats are extremely intelligent and can be trained to do many things. In fact, they’re so intelligent that they’re sometimes used for psychological experiments. During training, they learn tricks, solve puzzles, and run through mazes. You can also train them to recognize your name. And since they have an excellent memory, you can even teach them simple tricks!
Rats need a good diet and clean water. They should be fed pellets formulated for rodents, but they can also eat fresh fruits and vegetables and small amounts of cooked pasta and meat. They also need exercise and should run around on a wheeled toy to keep them busy.
Rats require a lot of burrowing space in their homes, so make sure your rat’s home is spacious enough to accommodate their burrowing activity. You can even fill up a dig box with material that the rat can use for burrowing. Adding more burrowing space to your rat’s cage can reduce stress and increase its lifespan.
