How Much Do Female Rats Weigh?

Generally speaking, the size of a rat depends on two factors – its age and gender. An adult rat will be bigger than a baby, and a male rat is typically heavier than a female rat. However, some factors affect rat size, such as the species of rat.

Rats are born with a small litter of six to eight pups. Female rats usually reach sexual maturity between their fifth and eighth weeks of life. The adult pet rat weighs approximately 0.7 to one pound. Female rats weigh about half as much as male rats. They are sexually mature at around four to six months, and can become full grown in around 6 months. However, they may lose weight quickly if they become ill.
