How Long Do Rats Live in a House?
When a pet rat is born, he or she is dependent on its mother for the first two weeks of life. At this stage, they are not yet sexually mature, so they can only reproduce after about eight weeks. After that, however, they can survive on their own.
Pet rats typically live between two and three years. Most owners know that their rat’s lifespan is short, but they must prepare to take care of their pet for the duration of its life. Rats are good companions and make excellent pets for children. However, children must always be supervised while handling the pet.
Rats don’t need a lot of water to survive, so they don’t have a problem with drinking tap water. However, they do require a good supply of food and water. They also have a powerful sense of smell. When a rat is deprived of food for more than a week, it may be in trouble. Even if rats don’t die, they won’t live long if they’re in an unsanitary environment.
Rats are highly intelligent and social animals. They form close bonds with humans, and they have complex needs. Rats vary in colour and have great senses of smell. They are active during the night and at dawn and dusk. Their lifespan is two years.
