Does Alcohol Kill Rats?
The rat population is a major problem in New York City. The city has spent millions trying to get rid of the rodent population. City officials have used rat poison, rodent birth control, and vermin-proof garbage cans to control the problem. But, none of these methods are 100% effective. Some methods take much longer to kill the rodent, while others are extremely harmful to other animals and humans.
A video was recently shared by Gothamist. It showed dead rats floating in a green liquid, dubbed “rat soup torture.” A lever lowered the rat into the solution, rendering it unconscious and ensuring it is dead. The tank can hold up to 80 rat carcasses. The video contains graphic content, and should be watched with sensitivity.
Another way to get rid of rats is by using boric acid. This can be mixed into chicken broth, using about a half teaspoon at a time. The stench from the broth will attract the rodents, and the substance will kill them. You can also make the boric acid paste into marble-sized balls and use them as bait.
In addition to rat removal, you can use black pepper to get rid of mice. Black pepper has a strong smell that is harmful to rodents’ lungs. Another option is to use onions, which are poisonous to rats. Those onions must be changed daily, though.
