However, mice are not as good climbers as rats. They can jump up to about a foot high and can access household items. This is why the homeowners may see discolored and greasy marks on the walls. But in most cases, mice and rats are not the only ones who can climb up walls.
Rats will climb any surface that is clingy. Their tails and claws enable them to scale walls. They can also leap from one branch to the other. This makes walls like electrical wires and cables attractive for them. But they cannot climb vertical walls. However, they can climb kitchen cabinets, especially those with smooth surfaces. Some kitchen cabinets may even have wires that encourage them to climb.
Rats love to enter homes and attics. Many people fail to seal these spaces. Rats will find these places and use them as a safe haven. If you have a rat problem, you should seal all possible entry points and make sure you do not have any open spaces or roof spaces. Also, rats prefer vertical surfaces because they are safe from predators.
