Do Mosquitoes Live in Trees?
Whether you live in the middle of a forest, or you have a backyard, you may be asking, do mosquitoes live in trees? Fortunately, the answer is yes. In fact, they’re likely to live in the ground surrounding your tree, and you’ll find them at least twice a day – once at dawn and once at dusk.
One thing to keep in mind is that these are day-biting insects. Their wings aren’t very powerful, so they don’t fly very high. Instead, they hang low and rest on weeds, tall grass, and the underside of foliage leaves.
Some plants and flowers are designed to attract beneficial insects, like aphids, while others are meant to discourage insects like mosquitoes. There are also some biorational larvicides, or liquids that contain chemicals that repel and kill mosquitoes.
Another way to get rid of mosquitoes is to mow your lawn on a regular basis. Mowing grass near your pool, walkways, and outdoor furniture will help ward off these blood suckers.
If you want to keep your pets happy and healthy, make sure that they have access to fresh water all year long. It’s also a good idea to clean out your pet’s water bowl every day.
The Western Tree Hole Mosquito is a hazard to both humans and dogs. It breeds in tree cavities, and develops into a small black and white adult mosquito. If you have a tree with holes, it’s a good idea to contact your local District for assistance in reducing the mosquito population.
