How Do Head Lice Look?
WouterIf you have ever been bitten by a head lice, you’ll know how frustrating it is to find the critter on your head. They’re so tiny that they’re often difficult to spot. But with a little observation, you can often spot the lice’s eggs and poop on your hair. You can also feel the itching that comes with head lice infestations, and you might even find some of their droppings in your hair.
The head lice themselves are very small, about the size of a sesame seed. They live in human hair and feed by sucking blood from the scalp. These creatures lay eggs, or nits, in the hair shaft. These nits are white or grey, and they are usually found near the hair near the scalp. They usually hatch within eight to nine days and leave behind clear shells that stick to the hair shaft.
There is no effective product that can prevent head lice, but there are precautions you can take to protect your child from the condition. The first step is to prevent head-to-head contact with other people. If your child has long hair, put it up in braids, ponytails, or buns.
A head louse looks like a tiny, brown, or gray creature with six legs. They move from person to person by clinging to hair shafts. Usually, they stay close to the scalp or behind the ears. However, you can also find them on eyelashes or eyebrows.
