Why Does Flies Land on Me?
There are several different reasons why flies land on us. Sometimes, flies will bite and pierce our skin so they can start sucking our blood. Other times, flies will try to pick up nutrients and dead skin cells. In some cases, they can try to land on our face because of the moisture and a particular smell.
It is very important to know the species of fly that you are dealing with. Some flies are related to the black house fly, which means they’re found in areas where there’s exposed food. They’re attracted to certain smells, including the scent of dead animals, garbage, and rotting food.
If you are having an issue with fruit flies landing on you, the first thing you should do is eliminate the source of the fruity smell. Fruit flies are similar to standard house flies, but they feed on fruit and lay eggs in them. They are also attracted to sweet smells such as your sweat or perfume.
Another way to control flies is to use repellents. Usually, these are used to repel mosquitoes, but they work on average flies as well. Some repellents contain DEET, which overwhelms flies’ senses and prevents them from landing on you.
