Why Does Flies Follow Me?

Flies are able to sense your scent, so if you’re in an environment that has a strong smell, you’re likely to attract them. While they won’t land on your face, they’ll still attempt to land near your head and ears. However, they’ll fly away within a hundred milliseconds. Fortunately, there are some ways to keep flies from following you.

Flies are one of the most diverse insect orders. In fact, more than 150,000 species have been identified. They are organized into 150 families. In Australia alone, entomologists believe there are more than 30,000 species. However, only about 7,700 of them have been described. The reason that flies are so adaptable is rooted in the complexity of their sensory systems.

Flies are attracted to warm, moist surfaces. Their soft mouths mean that they won’t bite you, but they will suck up your skin secretions. Typical flies are interested in sweat, proteins, carbohydrates, and salts, as well as dead skin. In addition to humans, flies also feed on livestock eyes, which contain nutrients they need.

In some cases, flies follow you because they’re hungry. These insects can follow you if you’re sitting outside or eating outdoors. If they’re feeding on human flesh, they won’t stop circling you. Besides, these insects have taste receptors on their feet and can walk around your body to taste nutrients.
